About me
My career began with a serendipitous encounter at Bolton’s Albert Halls. Originally a promising pianist, I was unexpectedly redirected to the hall’s formidable four-manual Harrison & Harrison pipe organ for a ‘Last Night of the Proms’ concert. The moment I pressed the ‘Discus’ switch and felt the instrument roar to life, a lifelong passion was ignited. Under the mentorship of the then Borough Organist, Brian Smith, I began a journey that has seen me become a mainstay of the North West’s choral and liturgical scene.
Since my first appointment in 1993, I have had the privilege of serving several prestigious parishes. After completing my music degree in Huddersfield, I held posts in Rochdale and Ringley before being appointed Organist and Choir Master at St John the Evangelist, Worsthorne in 2007. Over nearly two decades in this role, I have become a trusted musical partner for families during their most significant life events.
Some of my proudest career highlights include multiple appearances on BBC’s Songs of Praise and accompanying Choral Evensong at Blackburn Cathedral.
While I remain dedicated to my residency at St John’s, I am also highly sought after as a freelance organist. Whether I am playing for a wedding, a funeral, or a special celebration, I strive to bring a blend of technical mastery and heartfelt sensitivity to the console. My goal is always to ensure that every service is marked by dignity and a true sense of occasion.
